Day 1: Da Nang to Dong Ha

8:00 we will pick you up from Da Nang city (hotel, homestay, ...) On the way of your tour from Da Nang to the DMZ, you will pass by Red Beach where 3500 Marines - first American ground troops landed in South Vietnam in 8 March 1965 to secure US airbase, freeing South Vietnamese troops up for combat. Several attractions (stop upon request) including Hai Van pass (literally means Sea Clouds pass which is renowned for its scenic beauty where you can see an observation post/bunker during Vietnam war overlooking Da Nang city to the South and Lang Co beach to the North with blue sea and white sand. The road via Hai Van pass is one of the most beautiful coastal road in the world.  Nearby is Lap An lagoon - a brackish area of water famous for its oyster farming. Furthermore, we will also have a brief stop at Hue imperial citadel where one of the fiercest battle during the 1968 Tet offensive - Battle of Hue took place.

We continue through Phu Loc, Huong Thuy, Huong Tra, Phong Dien of Thua Thien Hue province into Quang Tri province. First district of Quang Tri province on the way northbound is Hai Lang district where we will stop at Our Lady of La Vang - a catholic cathedral well known for its Marian apparition in 1798 and now is a pilgrimage site for the Vietnamese catholic. Second stop is Quang Tri citadel memorial site known for its 81-day fighting between North Vietnamese Army and South Vietnamese Army from June 28 to September 16 in blazing summer of 1972 before the Paris peace talk in Jan 1973. There are thousands of soldiers K.I.A still lying beneath the ground of the citadel's 4 sq km. This battle is compared to Battle of Pittsburg Landing in American Civil War. We continue on to Dong Ha city - the capital city of Quang Tri province - for lunch break.

After lunch break, we keep going northbound across the DMZ into North Vietnam to visit Vinh Moc tunnel - an underground village housing civilians and soldiers during the hard time of American bombings. At Vinh Moc tunnel, you will have ample time to watch a documentary (if requested), take a look at the museum and then go underground to experience the village underneath with family rooms, maternity room, meeting room, air vent, exits to the sea, ... Drive across back to South Vietnam. On the way, we'll stop at Hien Luong bridge (aka DMZ bridge, Freedom bridge, Peace bridge or bridge of No Return) at historic 17th parallel. Here you will see frontline flagpole, border police memorial, 17th parallel museum and walk across the bridge to see the National Aspiration for Reunification on the southern bank of the Ben Hai river.

Drive back to Dong Ha city, dubbed as DMZ city. You'll have bonus stop Doc Mieu firebase/Gio Linh firebase or firebase A2 and Truong Son military cemetery upon request (if time permits). Overnight in Dong Ha city.

Day 2: Dong Ha to Da Nang

Pickup from your hotel going to Mine Action Visitor Center - a museum-like displays of war Explosive Remnants of War or Unexploded Ordinance (this attraction closed on Saturday, Sunday). We then heading West along Highway 9 - a strategic highway from Vietnam to Laos during Vietnam war - to visit Highway 9 National Cemetery where more than 10.000 NVA soldiers rest in peace labeled as ‘unknown soldier’. Next stop are the Rockpile - the American observation post for Communist infiltration and Dakrong bridge - a starting point of Ho Chi Minh trail from the DMZ crossing Highway 9 to the South to transport foods, weapons, ammos for the Vietcong . Last stop in the morning is Khe Sanh Combat Base – US Marine base holds the longest single battle of Vietnam war (77 days). Khe Sanh is compared to another 'Dien Bien Phu' for American.

Note: Camp Carroll (a Marine artillery base) is a bonus stop upon your request. For a stop at Lang Vei special force camp, please let us know in advance in your email or call prior to the touring date.

12:00 go back to Dong Ha city for lunch. On the way stop at a local Bru ethnic people village to see a local market selling products (avocado, bamboo shoot, ging sen, dragon-eye fruit, pineapple, ...)

Back to Dong Ha for lunch break. Time for local gastronomical delights of Dong Ha city and Quang Tri province. The food here is usually spicy, hot with local black pepper, chilli, ginger, garlic, turmeric and galangal root.

After awarding your stomach and freshening up your mind, our driver will take you straight to Da Nang for great farewell. Some photo and rest stops along the way in Hue or Lang Co. You can also opt for drop-off at Hue or Dong Hoi upon request.
